Medhat Shafik was born in El Badari, Egypt in 1956. He has been living and working in Italy since 1976.

In the essay Egyptian Modern Art by Salwa Mikdadi, published in the website of the Metropolitan Museum di New York, Medhat Shafik is included among the most interesting new artists of the Arabic art scene. He collects ancient memories from the Middle East – from his childhood in Egypt – combined with myths and the western artistic language. After graduating in Painting and Set Design at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, in the ’80s he began to participate in numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad.
