It examined questions of sustainability in 2019 with Broken Nature, and delved into the mysteries of the universe in 2022 with Unknown Unknowns. Now the 24th Triennale Milano International Exhibition is completing the trilogy by focusing on the human dimension, and addressing the urgent, political issue of growing inequalities in cities and in the contemporary world. Inequalities is a collective initiative which, by means of exhibitions, installations, special projects and events, questions the global challenges linked to the disparities present in various areas of life: from the economic to the ethnic, and from place of origin to gender.

The 24th International Exhibition also includes a special section for international participants, requested and sponsored by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE).

The Politecnico di Milano is taking part in the 24th Milan Triennale and examining the theme of the International Exhibition from two different perspectives. Based on the values that underpin the University’s code of ethics and rules of conduct, we created two coordinated and complementary installations that explore the different forms of inequality.

In the installation entitled “The space of inequalities: environment, mobility and citizenship“, on display on the ground floor, we are exploring a view of the physical world that sees some of the great challenges confronting the planet in the relationship between space and society: exposure to climate change, mobility and migration, access to services and the rights of citizenship.

In the installation “NOT FOR HER. AI Revealing the Unseen“, on show on the first floor, we are exploring a view of the virtual world where an apparently abstract relationship magnifies the reality of gender discrimination, made apparent in a tangible way by means of technology and Artificial Intelligence.

Two points of view, two immersive experiences, but a single goal: to reveal what is hidden in the shadows and to transform technology into a means towards awareness. Both installations highlight the invisible inequalities through the use of Architecture, Design, Engineering and Urban Planning. This approach embodies the research and teaching of the Politecnico di Milano, where science is not just innovation, but also a means to understand and improve society.
