Lecture del prof. Robert Jan Van Pelt: “The Evidence Room”

At the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale, a team of professors and students of the University of Waterloo School of Architecture exhibited The Evidence Room, which presented a forensic analysis of the Auschwitz crematoria by means of life-sized replicas and casts of key pieces of architectural evidence of the Holocaust. The project included a replica of a gas column used in Crematorium 2, a replica of a gas door used in Crematorium 4, a replica of wall section with gas-tight hatch used in Crematorium 5, and plaster casts of blueprints, architects’ letters, contractors’ bills and photographs of the Auschwitz killing installations. The Evidence Room was based on the forensic work of Waterloo professor Robert Jan van Pelt, who will discuss the attempt to represent something unrepresentable: the architectural evidence of a factory of death.”
