Event Details
The huge number of landmines deployed in past and present conflicts in addition to explosive war remnants are still a major cause of deaths and casualties (estimated by UNMAS under 5200 in 2008) in over 70 states all over the world. The humanitarian demining problem is complex and requires strong and continuous efforts from the society. Different stakeholders have a role in helping the afflicted countries to mitigate this problem by preventing the production and commercialization of landmines, by developing efficient methods to detect and remove landmines, to destroy stockpiles and by activating international politicians for preventing conflicts (peace keeping).
The seminar will be held in English language by Lorenzo Capineri, Università di Firenze.
