Speaker: Prof. Jaime Gómez-Hernández (Universitat Politècnica de València)

The ensemble Kalman filter has proven to be a powerful tool for inverse modeling in highly parameterized problems such as subsurface flow and transport, it has recently been successfully applied to determine the parameters that define a point contaminant source together with the spatial distribution of hydraulic conductivity in synthetic cases, and in laboratory experiments. The talk will introduce the ensemble Kalman filter and the specific aspects to take into account in the implementation for contaminant source identification, and will show some example applications.
