Charlot works in a factory in an inhumane environment, which leads to him ending up in an asylum. When he gets out he gets involved in a trade union demonstration and is arrested. After foiling an escape, he is freed and saves a girl living on the street from arrest, falling in love with her. Their life together is not easy but they do not lose their hope in a better future.
