Polimifest: Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio all’Opera

In nineteenth century street musicians represented in Naples’ alleys the most important opera arias for the public that could not afford the theater ticket. This essential way of reproducing the scores of great composers brought the opera back to its original vocation.
The sound of the musicians of contemporary cities represents today’s society: a sublime mixture of cultures. And then it is easy to imagine that, if those 19th century street musicians had had in their hands instruments belonging to all the cultures of the world, we would have found ourselves in front of the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio playing the Opera! The concert will feature some arias from reworked operas, such as Mozart’s The Flauto Magico and Don Giovanni, or Bizet’s Carmen, and a reinterpretation of “new” authors, such as Giuseppe Verdi and Kurt Weill. Twelve musicians and singers on stage will expose the lyrical compositions, exalting the areas of the most popular inspiration to ideally bring the audience closer to the moment when the great composers of the past composed them.
