Luigi Dadda: l’informatica al Politecnico

Talking about Luigi Dadda means outlining the beginnings of computer science at Politecnico di Milano. It is about remembering the momentum and partnerships with the business world in the difficult post-World War II period and the enthusiasm for renewal which involved the education field. Dadda became Politecnico Rector at another critical moment – the early seventies and the height of student protests. This was the time when the university changed from being an elite school to university for the masses. Digital technologies started conquering the most diverse fields, and European research actions were initiated. Dadda’s presence was decisive. His personal research continued, sometimes sparingly because of all his other commitments. These include developing innovative solutions for the arithmetic of computers which literally engaged him, until his last days.
In addition to remembering this man of science and academia, I would like to remember his humanity.
