Giuseppe Sommaruga was not only one of the leading exponents of Italian Art Nouveau but also a lighthearted innovator and avant-gardist who redefined the very style of art nouveau; a leading figure in Italian architecture in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, with particular reference to the Milanese and Lombardy areas.
Alongside numerous studies that frame Sommaruga’s experience in the context of Varese between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the editorial work includes a corpus of the great architect’s completed plates, with 40 previously unpublished drawings.
