Event Details

The Design System of Politecnico di Milano presents “INTERDEPENDENCE – designing relationships” to reflect on relationships and connections through a selection of projects by students of the Politecnico and about 50 international design universities in its network.

INTERDEPENDENCE is a diffuse event related to the fabric of the city, taking place in three main venues – Fabbrica del Vapore, Campus Bovisa Durando and Salone Satellite – and other places around the city.

An interdisciplinary team of students from the School of Design collaborated on the exhibition, which also developed the visual identity that serves as a common thread throughout the venues.

The three main venues:

INTERDEPENDENCE @ FABBRICA DEL VAPORE
Exhibition
Opening: Tuesday, April 16, 6:30 pm
Location: Fabbrica del Vapore, Via Giulio Cesare Procaccini 4
Date: April 16 – 21

On this occasion INTERDEPENDENCE takes the form of an international exhibition that mixes and matches the projects of Design, Architecture and Engineering students from Politecnico di Milano with those of design students from around the world.
The exhibition is enlivened by a palimpsest of initiatives, including an extemporaneous performance by Campo Teatrale. Conceived and directed by Simon Waldvogel and inspired by his work “WDWGFH – Where Do We Go From Here,” the performance aims to create a fragmented and interconnected experience where different performance languages and the surrounding space merge synergistically. A fusion that occurs in harmony with the bodies that populate the space, resulting in a narrative that challenges traditional boundaries between artistic and sensory elements.

DESIGNXDESIGNERS @ POLIMI CAMPUS BOVISA
Exhibition
Opening: April 15, 1:30 pm
Location: Bovisa Candiani Campus, via Durando 10, Milan
Date: April 16 – May 15.

DesignXDesigners is a big exhibition of the teaching projects of the students of the School of Design.
The exhibition highlights multiple design sectors: from industrial product to fashion, from interior and furniture design to communication, not excluding services, brand and strategy, transportation and design engineering. The exhibition covers 1,500 square meters and includes design boards, models, prototypes and full-scale installations.

INTERDEPENDENCE @ SALONE SATELLITE
Exhibition
Location: Rho Fiera Milano, Corso Italia, Rho, Stand A20
Date: April 16 – 21

The INTERDEPENDENCE exhibition is enlivened by a palimpsest of initiatives featuring players from the Design System, including:

SHAPING SUSTAINABLE INNOVATIONS THROUGH DESIGN PRACTICE
Exhibition
Location: Ex Cisterne space (groundfloor), Fabbrica del Vapore, Via Giulio Cesare Procaccini 4

Curated by Venanzio Arquilla, Patrizia Bolzan, and Carlo Emilio Standoli, the exhibition will present a selection of projects created by students of the Master’s Degree in Integrated Product Design course, with the aim of promoting social, environmental and cultural sustainability through collaboration between designers and other professional figures in a transdisciplinary logic.
The prototypes of the selected projects aim to give shape to new sustainable resources, focusing on the conscious and innovative use of the planet’s resources, with particular attention to the creation of new bio-based materials and waste recovery chains. The aim is also to promote new sustainable behaviour, both at individual and community level.
Finally, they focus on the creation of new sustainable ecosystems, proposing design solutions that work on the dimension of more-than-human relations, in which man is only one of the nodes of a wider ecosystem, composed of other living beings and artificial artefacts.
Shaping Sustainable Innovations through Design Practice è parte dei Satellite Events del Festival New European Bauhaus 2024.

DESIGN IS HAPPINESS
Exhibition
Location: Design Variations 2024 – Mosca Partners, Viale Gorizia 14
Date: April 14 – 21

The exhibition presents the work of students from the Landscape and Interior Spatial Design workshop led by lecturers Michele De LucchiFrancesca Balena AristaMarco de Santi and Francesco Clerici.
Adhering to the sub-theme “Cultural and information interdependence”, the students were assigned, as a project theme, not a type of building or interior space but an abstract theme, a keyword on which to build an imaginary, to construct a visible space that could transmit and communicate an intangible value. The theme of happiness is linked to the theme of sustainability, the need to find solutions for everything that can intimidate, and to think of a future as happy as possible.
The students designed and made suspended models and short videos that convey their reflections on the theme of Happiness.

Curated by: Michele De Lucchi, Francesca Balena Arista and Marco De Santi
