The first part of the seminar aims at providing a general picture of the current scientific knowledge about the problem of masonry members and structures in fire. The contents will include a general introduction to the fire problem in structural engineering; the fire vulnerability of masonry structures; the structural behaviour of masonry members in fire; the peculiarities of cultural heritage and post‐fire reliability; the state of the art about properties of materials (units, mortars, masonry assemblies) exposed to high temperatures; finally, the available design tools and approaches. The second part of the seminar proposes a focus on selected topics and gives an insight on current perspectives of research, especially devoted to stone masonry and monumental fires.
